A unit leader among other forms of leaders in the army is expected to motivate and influence the followers to uphold these seven core army values. The human resource department plays a critical role in developing good leaders in the military. Good leadership development involves recruiting, accessing, developing, assigning, promoting, broadening, and retaining the best leaders, while challenging them over time with greater responsibility, authority and accountability. Through human resource initiatives, leaders actively learn to mentor, coach, and counsel subordinates. One must remain mindful that leading people requires the right level of delegation, empowerment and trust balanced against the mission. More so, creating and encouraging positive working conditions that enable others to operate effectively and efficiently is essential in attaining set goals in a timely manner. An army leader serves as a role model to other military personnel as civilians. Being a lifelong process dedication to learn and develop as a leader plays a significant role in grooming and strengthening desired traits and attributes that others can emulate. Leaders must actively strive to better understand other cultures, world viewpoint and perspectives of the followers. This is desirable due to the workplace diversity and interaction with people from a wide range of background.
