Sartre's Existentialist View

If we want to make things simple, we have to study step by step the list of existentialist principles. When we see God as the Creator, He is usually considered as the only power that drives our lives. It is believed, therefore, that we have no impact on our own lives and there is fate that predetermines everything we should go through, our happiness and our challenges. While from the point of view of existentialism, everything is in our hands. Our decisions and choices are our own responsibility and no one can do that for us except us. This gives freedom, on the one hand, and a great deal of responsibility, on the other. However, this is what this concept is built upon.

From the Christian point of view, we are seen as people who deny the actual reality and seriousness of everything that is going on, thinking that we have no power over our lives and everything is in God's hands. Sartre was an atheist and therefore, he didn't believe in any divine force that drives us and our lives. Nor did he believe that there is someone above who has the right to declare what is wrong and what is right. For him, morality comes from our own consciousness. To his opinion, we decide who we are and who we want to be, what to do and how to live our lives.

Sartre researches the core matters and principles of existentialism through the prism of three characters. One of them appears an existentialist, although if to look closer, he ignores all the rules. The other one seems to completely realize all the matters and ideas of the discussed concept. Finally, there is the third character who does not seem to see and realize these ideas properly, and doesn't accept them when they are first announced to her. Because Sartre did not believe in God, he assumed that we should build our own principles that would serve us and make our life the way we want it to be. In Sartre's existentialism, anguish is the feeling one experiences when one understands that one is responsible not only for himself, but for the entire humanity, which is quite logic. Together with many of the other emotional conditions described by existentialists, this one is bound to stop one from living his life to the fullest and instead, follow some kind of rules that he doesn't even fully understand. Thus, Sartre was trying to find a way to release people from anguish and help them live to the fullest without feeling guilty for that.
