There are lots of different reasons which explain why we are here today and what our ancestors did to make us live there. Probably the best explanation is due to the two groups of English people that first came to the New World for searching of the better lives. Later they were known as the New England and Chesapeake regions. There were the groups the representatives of which started the development of the unknown and rural world into one of the most economically rich and populated nations in the world. These mentioned groups of the English people came to search better life, and yet they had different reasons for settling, therefore developing two absolutely different societies. This is what really developed the different characteristics between the Chesapeake and the New England regions.
The first and one of the most important differences between these two regions is the reason why these people established their colonies. The region which was called New England consisted of the separatist puritans that didn’t just want to purify the Anglican Church, but the representatives of Protestantism that wanted to separate from this church to form the ideal and perfect church of God, instead of going through the trouble of reforming it.
The separatist puritans embarked on the ship which was heading to New England with a vision of being the ideal and perfect civilization under the eyes of God and the civilization that other people would look up to. These members of the group migrated in the families, which also gave them an excellent chance of survival. By the way, there were just two women for every three men.
On the other hand, the Chesapeake Bay consisted of the young gentlemen who were blinded by their ambition for the gold. This region was established for the economic wealth and it was sent by the Virginia Company of London with the support of James I who issued the charter for the settlement. The members of this group didn’t think about the lifestyle they would lead in the New Word, but the mentioned wealth they would gain there. In addition, these gentlemen who were hungry on the gold were unprepared and unqualified to live rugged colonial lives, and it is also so important that they weren’t ready to find for them proper working places and food for their survival. Unfortunately, they were not’ accommodate to such lifestyle as they were going to have and to live there.
