Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby Explores the Theme of Pretension

I choose to explore such novel as The Great Gatsby because there are lots of themes in its plot which are so important to society. Let’s explain how Fitzgerald introduces and develops such themes as pretension and other ones. And the readers, who want to understand this theme and realize the intention of the author, should pay attention to such elements of the novel as setting, main theme, structure, symbolism and other important and appropriate features which concern the main plot and the main theme of pretension.

Being set in the 1920’s in the United States of America, the pre-stock market crash was known in New York as the West and East Egg. The Great Gatsby which is written by F. Scott Fitzgerald can be explored for the negative and positive moments and aspects of the dreams. Making the analysis of the characterization of the author, the actions and setting from the novel are determined in the way of how effectively these techniques are applied. It is also possible for a better understanding of the theme of pretension that has attracted my interest and attention to the text.

Even in spite of the fact, that later it becomes clear that Great Gatsby’s dream can never be fulfilled and they never come true, the author is careful about underlining the beneficial aspects of being dedicated to the dream, namely the motivation and the purpose are brought to the life of Gatsby. In this novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald, there is no character that seems to be flawless, and it is through these imperfections that the author outlines and highlights the importance of the dreams. F. Scott Fitzgerald makes the portrait of the representative from the upper-class from the United States of America and shows them as people who have no purpose in the life. But let’s remember that at that time there was no clear class system because everything was decided with the money.

The description of the party-goers is an effective one within the whole novel. It creates the image of the insect that is definitely free of care and has no important function in this life. It just travels where this creature wants in a relaxed manner. Such parallels are so important in the novel, and this really underlines such theme as pretension. But, however, F. Scott Fitzgerald didn’t use this mean as the stereotype and it helped to make this novel the real masterpiece which is well-known and popular even today.

I choose to explore such novel as The Great Gatsby because there are lots of themes in its plot which are so important to society. Let’s explain how Fitzgerald introduces and develops such themes as pretension and other ones.
