The Life of Zora Neale Hurston

Zora Neale Hurston is a well-known novelist and anthropologist who represented the Harlem Renaissance and wrote many interesting short stories. Besides, she is a famous American folklorist who studied anthropology and incorporated different folklore themes and racial heritage into her literary works. She was born in 1891 and spent her early adulthood years on studying at different universities. Zora was interested in collecting folklore and used to publish her unique finding in journals. Her most famous work was introduced to the public in 1937, and her life ended in 1960.

This talented writer wrote some widely acclaimed works of fiction, and she is also known as an incredible anthropologist and folklorist who worked hard to record a number of tales and stories that belonged to many cultures, including her personal African-American racial heritage. Hurston also wrote her autobiography that helps many readers had a better idea of the intricacies and events involved in her personal and professional life.

Zora was born in the family of former slaves, and her father was a local pastor. Her mother died when she was young, so her father remarried after moving to Florida. She did her best to earn money to support her further education, so Hurston worked on countless jobs, including an actress, a maid, and so on. She got her degree and succeeded to publish some of her early literary works in the university newspaper. After her graduation, Zora decided to move to Harlem, a famous area in NY.

This is where she started to experience her early literary successes, and she has a few serious academic interests. Besides, Hurston published many of her articles in magazines and explored the fine arts via a range of projects. Her most famous novel was written while travelling in Haiti where she decided to study interesting voodoo practices. She also spent a lot of time in Jamaica on conducting her detailed anthropological research.

Despite her professional accomplishments, Hurston struggled both personally and financially in the end of her talented life. She kept writing a lot, but it was hard for her to be published. Perhaps, that’ why Zora had a few strokes and died poor and alone in 1960, which is a sad fact. The good news is that another talented person helped revive public interest in her literary legacy and introduced her works to a new generation.
