A Description of Cupid and Psyche

When it comes to Greek myths and tales about love, there are always some strangers who are interwoven into different story lines. This statement is proven by the take of Cupid and Psyche too. Just like many other love tales, there are many things involves, including different emotions, like betrayal, jealously, and anger. In the beginning, readers can find out more about jealousy.

When the beauty of Psyche is described, it’s shown that many people believe that she could be a real goddess. For example, when this young princess goes out in the morning, people were offered with sacred feasts and flowers scatters on her way. People also call her the goddess of love and give her other valuable titles that anger Venus. From this tale, readers can easily suggest that gods anger with ease and a big part of their interaction with average people is all about their revenge.

Venus is full of anger, jealousy, and other negative feelings, and that’s why she decided to curse Psyche. She decides to send her son Cupid to make sure that she falls in love with someone really ugly. In theory, her plan was perfect, but the main problem is that Cupid is in love with Psyche, so he hides her from the anger of his mother. It’s true that isolation can be quite dangerous and it has many negative effects on all people. When it comes to Psyche, loneliness started to get to her because she has to spend her days and nights in tears while being a prisoner in a great palace without anyone to talk to.

This interesting Greek myth is also recurrent throughout different Indo-Aryan cultures, from India to Scotland. Its earliest version is The Golder Asse, and the most famous one is Cinderella. For instance, the take of Apuleius about one man called Lucuis who is turned into an ass revolves around the myth of Psyche and Cupid because it’s an important application of the main theme of this book.

In conclusion, the central theme in both tales is the consequences associated with people’s attempted satisfaction of their curiosity. Another interesting example of using this myth is the version of Bulfinch, and it’s designed more for public readers and kids, while the take of Apuleius is created for the society elite. That’s why Bulfinch had to censor different facts included in the story of Apuleius, including Psyche who cuts off the head of her husband and other similar scenes.
