Giacomo Puccini - Life, Love and Opera

Giacomo Puccini was born in Lucca in northern Italy on December 22, 1858, in a family, where there were five generations of musicians. Puccini's decided to become a composer, and certainly opera, after the first visit to the "Aida" by Verdi. In the autumn of 1880 he went to Milan, where passing the entrance exams, was admitted to the conservatory.

During his studies in 1882, Puccini's taking part in one-act opera competition. Although he did not take first place, his opera named "Wilis", was staged in 1884. It attracted the attention of Giulio Ricordi, head of the influential music publication who commissioned Puccini's second opera, which was the "Edgar" staged in 1889. Opera failed.

Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa came together to complete the work on the opera "Manon Lescaut". They worked with Puccini on the creation of the three subsequent operas.

"La Boheme" by Puccini brought worldwide fame to the author. The premiere took place on 1 February 1896 in Turin. «Melancholy ", which premiered in 1900, was the first manifestation of Puccini-verists that depicted in many aspects of his real life, including violence.

Puccini was one of the first in the opera who appealed to the Japanese story. "Madame Butterfly", was initially accepted by the public hostility, but after some modifications, has become one of the most successful opera in the composer list. The premiere took place on March 27, 1917 in Monte Carlo. In 1918, the premiere of the opera took place in New York under the name of "Triptych". The product consists of three one-part opera: a horrific episode "Cloak", the comedy "Gianni Schicchi" and a sentimental tragedy "Suor Angelica". The last musician work was opera "Turandot" and it left unfinished due to the composer's death.

Giacomo Puccini died on November 29, 1924 from complications after an operation on his throat. In Rome the news of his death came during a performance of La Bohème. The opera was stopped, and the orchestra played the funeral march by Chopin. Giacomo Puccini was buried in Milan, and then his remains were reburied in the chapel at the Villa Puccini in Toro del Lago.
