The Concerns of the Tennessee Valley Authority

According to historical references, the Tennessee Valley Authority’s history starts with the Muscle Shoals.The land was acquired by the federal government in 1916, in the plans was building a dam that would use as generating electricity for the First World War. But the dam wasn’t constructing and the government tries to sell the land back. In 1933, it was signed the Tennessee Valley Authority Act by President Roosevelt. This Act provided flood control, improved marginal farmland, assisted in industrial and agricultural development. Despite failures, a lot of people get electricity for an affordable price. The Tennessee Valley Authority Act improved the economic and social circumstances of the people that live in the river basin.

For about 28,000 workers constructed sixteen dams by the Tennessee Valley Authority, from 1933 to 1944. In parallel there were building a lot of hydroelectric projects and the steam plant. Each dam is unique in its design, the higher dams were built on the tributaries to the Tennessee River and flooded large areas of land with huge reservoirs. In 1944, the Tennessee Valley Authority dams were a very popular place for tourists.

A lot of farmers were too poor to conduct electricity in their building. In a result, 90% of an urban population has the electricity and only 10% of a rural population can allow conducting electricity. In 1941, the Tennessee Valley Authority was the largest producer of electrical power in the US. By the Supreme Court were granted powers to generate power and sell electricity. Subsequently, most of the farmers can buy appliances for farming. Including farming practices in the Tennessee Valley Authority, a lot of hillsides and valleys were plowed.The Tennessee Valley Authority worked towards the change old farming practices. By the Tennessee Valley Authority was created demonstration farms for uses new technologies and techniques in agricultural development.

Nowadays, the Tennessee Valley Authority is a biggest public power company, which capable to generate more than 38 thousand megawatts. Amount 8 million residents of the Tennessee Valley have 158 distributors energy. For tourists, the Tennessee Valley Authority has reservoirs behind its dams, where tourists can do fishing, sailing, canoeing, and etcetera.
