This book tells the autobiographical story of the writer. He wrote such words about this book “Eight hundred and fifty-three horrifying things that happened to me by the time I was teenager.” Looking at this short sentence the reader already can imagine what this story is about and how the author lived when he was a child. Yet, everything is a bid different, because the author tells the story of friendship and how it changed him for better, because he never was a very good boy.Parents should know that is an adult novel of searching the path in life. Two young teens learn through their actions and mistakes what it means to make somebody hurt. This book describes a friendship of two troubled schoolchildren and an old gentleman, whose name is Mr. Pignati. It is narrated by these two kids Lorraine and John. Through the book they reveal their problems at home, they fears and believes and information about this strange friendship that changed their lives.
The whole story is about lives of two teenagers, who chose a wrong way and stole money from Mr.Pignati. Everything has changed when they found out more about this man, about his life, his collection of pigs that he gathered with his wife and about his loss. All these makes children feel guilty for their bad actions. They feel sorry for this man and they want to help him live more happily, but, unluckily they not always can do this.
They became real friends and author confessed that being with Mr. Pignati was much more comfortable, than at home with his own parents. They started to visit his place almost everyday. Everything was changed when Pigman got a heart attack and went to hospital. The main heroes wanted to help and visited him every day. He gave him keys from his house, because he wanted so they felt themselves at home while he is absent. Unfortunately, they decided to have a party and their malevolent also came. Because of the party and a big fight, they almost ruined the house, but what is worse, they ruined the collection of pig gathered by Mr.Pignati. Children felt sorry for their actions and decided to invite him to the zoo, where they went with him before, but it appeared that the animal friend Bobo of Mr. Pignati died, which caused another heart attack and he died.
This book is full of slang words and even rude expressions, but this is necessary to see real picture of teens life. It doesn't have evident morality, but it really possible to teach something.
