The Lord of the Flies demonstrates that in the case of the absence of civilization, people lose their sense of being civilized. In this situation humans’ savage and dark of themselves are out of the surface. William Golding, the author of this novel, shows us the group of children who stuck on the island. The author expresses his own attitude to the savagery as the act of violence in this novel. He explains to the readers that savagery is an essential feature of the man and this character exists in all of us. In fact, civilization keeps the humans’ savagery under control. This had been shown during the humans’ history lots of times. But, of course, some cases are the evidence of the opposite points of view, and the civilization can’t control humans’ savagery.
In addition, all humans have the capability of savagery inside of us. Every person knows how it is to fight or be hit by the sister or brother. And it is considered as the act of violence. It explains that your brother is savage; you are savage as well as I and all other people in the world. But civilization controls us, but only to an extent. If civilization keeps us and maintains the total control, a person wouldn’t get into a fight with the absence of something terrible which happening to him as a kind of punishment. In that case, people from all over the world would have live in total peace. But then, how we could live in peace without war? We wouldn’t know what the war is. And civilization wouldn’t maintain the maximum control over humans.
Let’s remain that civilization maintains control over us, but only to an extent. It may control us only partly. Everyone does what she/he wants in accordance with their values, beliefs, wishes and morals. Of course, there are some consequences and regulations in civilization for those who break these values. And it is the main reason of the maintaining the control by civilization. Someone will be afraid of committing the crime because this person knows that he/she might be caught and even got into the prison. But in spite of this, we see, read and hear daily about the murders, drugs use, suicides, alcohol dependence and other kinds of crimes. This is why civilization keeps us under the control only to an extent. No one can stop the people to do different affairs and commit the crimes, accept dangerous substances, kill other people and even themselves. Nothing can stop people to do so, even the laws are not so powerful to stop these humans affairs.
