Theories Of Knowledge And Psychological Applications

Knowledge (in psychology), also known as cognition - a term used in several, quite different from each other contexts, indicating the ability to mentally perceive and process external information. In psychology, this concept related with the mental processes of the individual, and mainly with the study and understanding of the so-called "mental states" in context of information processing. Most often the term is used in the field of the study of the so-called "contextual knowledge", as well as in those areas where we consider such concepts as knowledge, skill or training.

The term "cognition" is also used in a broader sense, labeling itself "act" of knowledge or knowledge itself. In this context, it can be interpreted in a cultural and social sense as referring to the appearance and 'becoming' knowledge and concepts associated with this knowledge, expressing them both in thought and in action.

The study of types of mental processes, called cognitive, is heavily influenced by studies that have successfully used the paradigm of "cognition" earlier. The term of "cognitive processes" is often applied to processes such as memory, attention, perception, action, decision-making and imagination. Emotions are not traditionally considered to be cognitive processes. The above division is now regarded as largely artificial, conducted studies examining the cognitive component of emotion.

Empirical studies of cognition usually use scientific methodology and quantitative methods; it sometimes also includes the construction of models of a particular type of behavior.

The theory of cognition mainly describes the behavior of the individual in context of information flow or function. Relatively recent research in areas such as cognitive science and neuropsychology, are eager to cross the gap between information and biological processes.

The theoretical school that studies the thinking from the perspective of cognition, commonly referred to as a "school of cognitivistic."
