George Gershwin is known as the most beloved and popular performed American composers, who started in the theaters on Broadway. A feature of his work was a mixture of various musical genres and vivid style of the author.

George Gershwin was born in the area of Brooklyn, New York, the son of Russian immigrants. Real name of the composer is Jacob Gershovits. Since childhood he absorbed jazz culture (say, the first time he heard Gershwin jazz music in 6 years), he was a lover of jazz concerts and began to teach himself to play the piano at age 12. Much later, becoming a renowned composer, Gershwin did not cease to learn and improve his technique. During these studies he became acquainted with the unique American composers of those years, such as Henry Cowell, Wallingford rigger and Joseph Schillinger (the latter is notable for the fact that the approach to the process of composing music with mathematical position, trying to develop a universal algorithm).

In 1914, Gershwin began to perform as a professional musician, working as an accompanist in the company of Jerome Remick. Even the first author's work the young Gershwin was released two years later - "When You Want 'Em You Cannot Get' Em". Despite the fact that it has not enjoyed much success the public, Gershwin drew the attention of some well-known Broadway producers and directors. Sigmund Romberg with pleasure included Gershwin's music in his operetta "The Passing Show of 1916".

There were many works of Gershwin on Broadway in the years 1918-1919.

In 1920-1924 years George Gershwin created several dozen works for the "George White's Scandals", and in 1922 even wrote this opera - "Blue Monday", the premiere of which was invited to the jazz band Paul Whiteman as a composer. It is for Whiteman George wrote a real gem of his work - "Rhapsody in Blue".

In 1924, Gershwin created a musical "Lady, Be Good!", which was the first real success of composer on Broadway. In this setting, Gershwin first worked with his brother Ira Gershwin, who wrote all the lyrics. The next decade, this creative union was the most productive and popular on Broadway. The most successful of the show was "Of Thee I Sing", 1931.

The most large-scale and ambitious work in the biography of Gershwin was the opera "Porgy and Bess", in 1935, delivered on the novel of Dyubosa Hayward.

George Gershwin died on July 11, 1936 in Hollywood, did not reach two months to 39 years. The unexpected death of the composer was caused by an unsuccessful operation to remove a brain tumor.
