John Roebling's Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge is a famous attraction in New York, and John Roebling designed and built it as a certain luxury to local inhabitants at that time. Basically, when the river was frozen in the winter, people from Manhattan had to walk across it to get to Brooklyn, and this is when they understood that it would be great to have a bridge to connect two famous islands. That’s why John Roebling designed this well-known bridge in the way that he considered suitable and allowed it to span the river.

He did it for New York people through his grand in designing, regardless of how this bridge looked at these days. Right after its completion, it was looked at by people as a wonderful monument, object of pride, and landmark. All of these terms are great, but they are not what John Roebling had in his mind at the very beginning. That’s because he actually didn’t care about praise and honor due to this great bridge, and his only intention was completing this project to make people happy.

If he was looking for pride and praises, he would have stated something to show his true motifs. Perhaps, he could decide to name this bridge after himself or his family, but Roebling wanted to complete this project to serve the public and he realized that he could receive a lot of praise because it was a great bridge. His son Washington also took part in this project, and they both had to suffer because of it a lot. For instance, Washington sacrificed his health, and John had to give his own life, but they never showed any pride because their entire work was devoted to the community.

Although Roebling constructed this bridge to improve the everyday life of local inhabitants, it was looked at as some transportation monument at that time. He had no other choice because this construction needed to be magnificent to fit all bills. If to remember the whole foundation and history of Brooklyn Bridge, it was quite ridiculous that a short ferry ride from Brooklyn to New York could take such a long time in the past.

In conclusion, John Roebling is the engineer who constructed and designed its project because he understood that people needed this bridge to ensure their comfortable life and fit their transportation needs. It was built in 1852, and it still remains a prominent bridge monument liked and visited by many tourists. John Roebling had to overcome many challenges and solve multiple problems to complete this famous project successfully.
