Progressives were focused on specific flaws and weak sides in the government and they wanted to improve the societal inequality, but they soon understood that it’s hard to changing the society in America because of the challenges that are almost impossible to overcome.
Their progressivism was characterized by a range of specific movements targeted at restoring and renovating the society in this country, its basic institutions, and values. There were a few fundamental issues addressed by progressives, including the civil rights of freedmen, women’s suffrage, and working conditions. Every group of American reformers challenged the society and its traditions because they wanted to improve its conditions and promote general welfare. So, they were looking for an ideal union for all people to be happy with.
In overall, the progressive movement in the US was people’s effort to cure the ailments of the American society that were developed because of the major industrial growth in the 19th century. Many great cities evolved and businesses were developed, but many people were not happy because of specific flaws that existed in this society at that time.
Progressive efforts to improve the American society were not new, and the biggest push to their development took place right before the Civil War. This movement also included the efforts of many social activists to improve working conditions and humanize the attitude to mentally sick patients and prisoners. Some of them even decided to set their utopian and limited communities and remove themselves from that society.
