Dylan Thomas was born in 1914, and he died in 1953, so his life consisted only from 39 years full of adventures and ideas. They allowed this man to leave his indelible mark on the history because he published a number of books of his plays, poetry, short stories, and other interesting works. Dylan first tours America in the early 50s and he read at different public forums, and this tour was quite successful, so he really fell in love with this country.
Basically, Thomas gave excellent lectures on this tour, and he managed to discover NY, but he had a reputation of a heavy drinker, but he didn’t want to disappoint his American fans. Many people thought that his manner of reading made them understand his poem for the first time, and it was influenced by his voice. However, when Dylan came back home to Wales, he found out that this trip to the US wasn’t quite lucrative to support his literary efforts for a long period of time. This is when he became sick and it was his last fertile poetry period.
In 1951, Thomas agreed to have another tour in America and he was accompanied by his wife. This final trip to America was characterized by less love affairs and moderate drinking. When he returned to home, his father died and his own health got worse because of many years of drinking, smoking, and other harmful habits. Thomas suffered from many diseases, and he needed money, so he agreed to tour the US for the third time in 1953.
Thomas received many interesting opportunities in this country, but he didn’t manage to produce anything at all. Because of this drinking problem, Dylan fell down a stairway and broke an arm, so he had to return to his home country, but his health condition started to deteriorate very fast. This famous lecturer and writer earned his shocking and even roistering reputation, but he still made some of his greatest performances as a talented lecturer.
During his last trip to America, he moved west while stopping in major American cities where he lectured in the daytime and drank at night. Unfortunately, the quality of his lectures got worse as he chose bars instead of his talents and literary works, but he is considered as one of the greatest writers and lecturers of the 20th century, but his last trip was very unsuccessful because it was stopped because of the incident, so Thomas had to return to his home country where he finally died when he was only 39 years old.
