Othello's Reputation or Honor

Othello is the recognized savior of Venice, revered general, with the royal ancestors. But he was alone and a stranger to this country, and it despised him in turn. During the Venetian council no one but the Venetian doge could believe in the sincerity of her feelings, and everyone absolutely seriously wondered whether he resorted to magic or otherwise impact on the young girl. Othello understands his role, he cannot explain to senators how it happened. Othello takes her love as an unmerited gift, a miracle, a great happiness.

When Othello realizes for the first time that he can lose Desdemona, he recalls that he was a Moor, he was black.

The only thing that connects Venice and Othello is a military matter. And even here we see a striking difference between Othello and other warriors; he can take any post, but to integrate into society is too much for him.

And it is also his inner qualities that are different from the usual aristocratic world. Othello is trusting and naive. Before his death, he said that jealousy was not a passion, initially determines his behavior, but it possessed him when he was unable to resist the influence of Iago`s words.

Othello trusted to Iago`s logic, because he considered that his is inherent among all members of Venetian society. But Othello cannot accept moral norms of Iago, he cannot abandon his ideals, and therefore decides to kill Desdemona.

Once again we see a confrontation between two incompatible worldviews. When Iago best answer to the betrayal is to behave in the same way in order to revenge, Othello does not see anything better than to kill Desdemona, "clearing" thus the world from evil.

Nevertheless, this work does not leave the belief that good initially and inevitably doomed to defeat evil. Before his death, Othello returns to the high ideals of faith, in devotion, honesty, dedication, love.

Shakespeare shows that the ideals of truth and generosity - it is something absolutely real; however, it is difficult to survive in the conditions of the Venetian civilization. Shakespeare makes readers hatred of society, where there is Iago, but also instills pride in humanity that can produce people like Othello and Desdemona. Othello is presented as a man of high moral principles, which appreciate honor and justice. All his actions, whatever they were, were made under the influence of these spiritual values. But it is worth noting that, in part, it was his moral principles that ruined the relations of Othello and his beloved, and their lives.
