At the time, the case Meacham v. Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory had a huge impact in the United States.

The history of the proceedings began with the precedent that took place in the Knolls Laboratory. Laboratory management fired some employees, citing a variety of reasons. It is noteworthy that almost all the dismissed employees were older than forty years. In this regard, the former employees of the organization filed a lawsuit against the lab, accusing management in discrimination based on age. It is worth noting that there was no direct evidence of discrimination made by the laboratory management.
