The Pressure Cooker Theory of Revolution

When discussing revolutions and their basics, people should become familiar with the pressure cooker theory. This term is not historical, but it helps many students comprehend this subject much better and easier. To get a clearer idea of what the pressure cooker theory is, it’s all about a certain pyramid divided into 4 basic sections. In general, it’s based on the division and existence of different classes in the society, and each one should be examined.

The swiftness class is located on the top of the above-mentioned pyramid, while the middle class is in its center, and proletarians and peasants are in the very bottom. Every class has its unique ranks and seam descriptions that shouldn’t be overlooked when studying this subject. The main track that they’re placed in this pyramid defines their job descriptions and ranks. The upper class consists of aristocrats and nobles, and they are wealthy, own a lot of land, and have a lot of power. They make up only around 1% of the entire population in the world and want to be on the top of the pyramid all the time. Besides, this class owns peasants.

Another segment of this theory is the middle class that consists of the bourgeoisie, bankers, professionals, merchants, and so on. They all are people who control different industries, trading, commerce, and other similar fields. Some of them may own land, but not as much as the upper class, and this class makes their own dimensions in major cities. They have the property necessary to be used for their factories and businesses. These people can own proletarians, just like the upper class.

Proletarians belong to the third class called lower, and they tend to live in cities and work in factories owned by the middle class. They are often called as the proles, and this class consists of factory workers and different laborers who perform their regular duties for a small payment that allows them to survive.

In summary, all of these classes represent the so-called pressure cooker, and they all have different aspirations and goals in the existing social pyramid. When it comes to any frictions among these classes, they may ignite the fire under this pressure cooker, thus bringing certain social changes. For instance, changes on the top of the pyramid lead to the evolution towards socialism or democracy, while changes in the bottom result in revolutions and forming new governments.
