So they often but modern and popular magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan and others to find the newest trends which are in fashion now. And it is not about clothes or accessories. Lots of women are ready to change the form of their noses, to color hair and to wear high-heel shoes only to be close to the ideal appearance.
These adolescent and young females allow themselves to do everything with their bodies, even when these actions and operations cause to the problems with health. Experts prove that such dependence of having the ideal appearance can cause not only physical changes, but also mental illnesses. And, unfortunately, one of the most important factors which lead to such desires of women with usual appearance is fashion magazines. Journalists just share with their opinions or predict the future trends, and women start to be as closer as possible to have an ideal appearance.
By the way, girls who are 12-19 years old are the most dependable of the fashion magazines. How do such articles impact on the teenagers, their health and concept of an ideal beauty? Marika Tiggemann and Hayley Dohnt conducted a survey and study which occurred April 2006 in “The Journal of Youth and Adolescence”. They were taking the samples of 128 girls from the first four years of the formal schools. Girls were interviewed and experts wanted to evaluate the imagination about the body imagen as well as dieting awareness.
In the result it was found that the great amount of girls desired to be slimmer and to have an ideal figure. According to the research of Dohnt and Tiggemann, there was the feeling of dissatisfaction of their bodies almost in all girls. Experts also mentioned that girls, who always read and look the fashion magazines, dream to grow and to be similar to one of the women who are on the pages of these periodicals.
This study tells that young girls (5-8 years old) live in the culture, when the ideal body image is given to them with the help of media and fashion magazines. These girls don’t consider their mums, friends or the most famous celebrities to be the most beautiful, because they don’t match the image from magazine. Daily all the women are attacked with the ideas of media world of the “perfect” body.
