Public relation is an activity that aims to increase understanding between an organization or individual and one or more groups of people called publics. Communication between specialists and the target auditory is used for this purpose. The term is also used for indicating the profession responsible for handling those activities. Educational institutions, corporations, government agencies, entertainers, politicians, labor unions, and religious groups are those who use public relations. Publics vary from stockholders and employees to members of the media and entire communities. Public relations are used by many organizations to gain the understanding of their employees and customers.

There are different communication strategies that range from simple news releases to sophisticated public relations campaigns, including featuring advertisements, films, speeches, and TV appearances. Such communication aims to gain the good will of the community. Public benefit is the basis of any effective public relations campaign. Publics will not support an organization that does not serve its needs. Organizations and individuals are helped by public relations experts to learn what their publics want. They are needed to establish communication policies reflecting concern for publics' interests.
