The Declaration of Independence

Being signed in 4th of July in 1776, the Declaration of independence is one of the most important documents in the history of United States of America. This day is the national holiday which is celebrated annually by the millions of Americans. It is because the events in the past had the great influence on the life of lots of colonists who had the American roots. With the help of this written document America’s values and its freedom were defined and it still stands today. People from the 13 colonies had been trying to avoid the power of British government during 14 months, and at the same time their allegiance was proclaimed to the crown. After the meeting of the Second Continental Congress in 1776, it was made the decision according to which the only definite way of declaring the independence would be the statement to the king of Great Britain. The colonists had the intentions to understand why they made this decision to take the action and presented all their arguments in the written Declaration.

It is considered to be that the Declaration of Independence can be divided into four main parts. Firstly there is an introduction which gives the explanation why the colonies desired to declare their independence, and the why the independence is so necessary for the success of new country. So called unalienable rights are described in the second part, because they are not granted by the government, but instead are guaranteed to humans at the moment of birth. Moreover, the representatives of the colony felt that the prior government of Great Britain was violating the natural born rights, and that is why the settlers should create more effective government for running the new country. It was stated that one of the main purposes of the British government was to protect and secure their rights. Moreover, the new government would have the basis on the consent of the governed, which was considered to be the sole source of the authority of the government. So when the government of colony violated the people’s vision of the existed government, then it would be as the right to overthrow it. The list of complaints and grievances against King George III is in the third part of the Declaration. In fact, this ruler represented all the British actions. Noticed grievances are like the examples of the actions which violated the criteria and factors for the good government as it is stated in the second part of the Declaration of Independence.
