The Stagecraft of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

One of the most famous artistic creations and striking examples of postmodern intertextuality, without a doubt, is the play of Sir Tom Stoppard "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead."

T. Stoppard remarked that the characters in his plays are in verbal jugglery, which no end in sight. This technique creates a special feeling of foolish comic, carelessly thrown by the hand of the author in play with a rather grim end. The absurdity of the dialogues of heroes only anticipates those frightening discoveries that can also amaze the viewer, like the heroes of Shakespeare's plays.

The name of the play refers the viewer or reader to "Hamlet". Without a doubt, the playwright managed to achieve amazing effects. The author of the play, by referring to the legacy of his great predecessor, did not grossly distort the philosophical and aesthetic content of the original. T. Stoppard does not seek to argue with Shakespeare. Rather, it is a creative dialogue with him, thus enriching the spiritual world of the modern reader / viewer and making it more critical of the heroes of the product, and then of ourselves.

We can assume that the playwright has managed to create a stereoscopic view of the existence of the problem. If "Hamlet" just really suffers persistent explorations in search of answers to the "eternal" philosophical questions, T. Stoppard gives you the opportunity to feel the difficulty of the existential experience already through the eyes and the inner world of the two "little people." Of course, even together they do not compare with the versatility of Hamlet, but psychologically two protagonists give a completely different picture to understand.

The main advantage of reading Shakespeare is that he was able to go beyond the traditional circle of eternal images, rooted in common European cultural consciousness in the perception of "Hamlet."

Like any great work of art, in the play "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" is a paradox. The main characters are the bearers of a living British humor, forcing the viewer to reflect on the meaning of life, they are given the function that Shakespeare is largely performed on Hamlet.

Having turned out the story of "Hamlet" by Shakespeare inside out, using his two odious characters, T. Stoppard gave a new, very special life by using Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. In today's mass cultural consciousness, they are not criminals and victims, but members of strange, eerie, but also funny stories.
