Destinies of Romeo and Juliet : the love that breaks the rules

The first tragedy of Shakespeare is the tragedy of the great human feeling that faced the inhuman world. Besides, it is a tragedy of a man’s destiny, which is often predetermined by his surroundings.

The main theme of the Shakespeare's tragedy is the denunciation of never-ending internecine feuding. These feuds killed two beautiful young people. No one of the elders in the Montagues and the Capulets could remember what the cause of that feud was. However, it is still disturbing the young generations preventing them from their own choice. The family of Capulets is raising a thirteen-year-old daughter. Juliet Capulet is obedient, decent and respectful. But her humility is exhaustible. There are no restrictions anymore as she meets Romeo Montague. A pure feeling to the son of her family enemies inevitably comes into contradiction with the tradition, with the will of the parents. Romeo also disobeys wishes of the parents.

Since their first meeting, the world has turned upside down. The sudden feeling of boundless love gave them the exalted state of infinite happiness. Understanding that parents will maintain the grounds and never let them date, Romeo and Juliet meet secretly and get married. But the fate does not give that great love the slightest chance. The tragic end of the play is filled with overwhelming sadness and pity. Two lovers ardently loving each other died in one day. Only after losing their children, the families of the Capulets and the Montagues realised what a horrible loss was caused by their long-standing feud. The peace-making price was too high.

The problem is that the environment often imposes conditions on people giving them obligations they must fulfil. Everyone knows what a nuisance when the children are forced by parents to do the hated activity and when parents chose their profession and even college. Many would agree that the opinion of parents, relatives and friends did not lead to the happy end in the relations between a man and a woman. Pressure and coercion do nothing good for people. The evidence of this is the love of Romeo and Juliet. Parents had sealed their fate – enemies forever. However, their children appeared to be able to step over the prejudices.

It turned out that love is stronger than death and stronger than the will of fate. People are always free to make their choice and thus to break the bonds of stereotypes and false purposes designated by other people.
