Achilles's Unwavering Integrity

There are a number of great soldiers in the poem "Iliad» but the major role in the poesy is given to Achilles by the author. As the strongest soldier of the Greek army, Achilles has such features as courage, bravery and a sense of duty. Achilles has rather violent temper, which is combined with the desire to achieve the justice. He is a real hero who first of all appreciates the honor.

In the tenth year of the siege of Troy, Achilles captured beautiful Briseis. She served as a bone of contention between Achilles and Agamemnon. Enraged, Achilles refused further participation in the battles. Neither distress Greeks nor entreaties and promises of the Embassy, which, on the advice of Nestor, was fitted out to Achilles by Agamemnon, could not soften the anger of the hero. This situation is very clearly emphasizes the resistance of Achilles. He is ready, no matter what, to defend their honor and dignity. At first glance it may seem that he is just a selfish and spoiled person, but in fact, in this way Achilles wishes to underline his status and right, well deserved in the battle, for the respect and honor.

Only when the Trojans, headed by Hector, entered the camp of the Greeks, Achilles allowed Patroclus to lead Myrmidons to the aid of the Greeks and for more enemies intimidation he ordered him to put on his armor. But Patroclus fell at the hands of Hector, and only his naked body was retaken by the Greeks from the Trojan, the armor of Achilles, was taken as a trophy be Hector. Then Achilles, unarmed and accompanied by Athens, appeared on the battlefield, and a menacing look of the hero turned enemies to flight. Fulfilled by the sense of revenge, he rushed into the fray; only Hector dared to oppose him, but after all he tried to run away. After the murder of Hector, stormy temperament of Achilles does not allow him to settle down on it, he ties Hector's body to his chariot and several times toured the city of Troy, but when king Priam comes to him in order to ask not to mock under his son, a sense of fairness wins: stricken by the old man grief, he gives Hector's body for burial.

Despite the brutality of the act, we understand that Achilles wanted fair trial of the murderer of his friend, because, in fact, Hector was killed in the same way as Patroclus. It shows the sense of justice of Achilles. The fact that the king of Troy, comes to Achilles not to retaliate, but to ask about the possibility of a decent burial of his son, only highlights the idea.
