The Different Analysis on Trench Warfare

Trench Warfare is a kind of military action where the armed conflict is mainly conducted on the continuous, relatively stable fronts with sustainable defense. As a rule, it is characterized by the high density of forces and the development of engineering software products. During the trench warfare, no party comes forward with an attack and no party retreats. Both merely settle within their bridgehead that are designed to protect from any possible onslaught from the opposing side and patiently wait for decisions and commands given by the higher decision-making bodies.

During a trench warfare, one’s military, political, and strategic situations usually remain stable for a long period of time. Military actions coming from both opposing sides are methodical, their operations are often inefficient, and even in case of a favorable outcome the results achieved are usually quite limited.

Yet, the reason to start a trench warfare is complex and usually thought through. It is aiming for a strategic goal to exhaust one’s enemy, demographically and economically. The transition to trench warfare is usually conducted due to the inability of both sides to exercise breakthroughs towards the opposing defense, or to even develop efficient tactical breakthroughs. Such scenarios happen when both opposing parties have a relatively balanced power over the military action and a fairly similar amount of weapons and military machines.

Tensions on the Western Front during the second half of 1914 during the First World War and on the Eastern Front during the second half of 1915 are among the typical examples of trench warfare in recent history. After the stabilization of the front in the autumn of 1914, the fighting degenerated into a merciless and senseless carnage that had no previous examples in the world history. The carnage continued on and under the ground. People were paving underground areas with bombs with intent to blow enormously large sections of the front. At that exact time, on the surface, the forces were strengthening human resources, machinery, barbed wire, guns and special trench knives. The trench warfare of 1914-1918 is remembered as an extremely cruel action that took millions of lives of people and changed their lives, which marked it as one of the biggest tragedies of the XX century.
