Race Against Time: one of the toughest challenges ever

In the locker room we see the day's track workout posted on the bulletin board. As follows from the schedule, something thrilling is getting closer. Today's practice involves a 1200, 800 as well as 400 with a mile warm-up and also cool-down. The butterflies in my stomach start fluttering as I start doubting whether my shape is good enough to complete or not. Yes, I should consider myself to be my worst enemy, though it might be true for any other person. I’m getting dressed slowly. When tying my running shoes, I keep fighting the urge to hide anywhere.Then I trudge out to the track and I drag my feet literary every step of the way. After two warm-up laps, I get down to stretch. Sure, when doing this exercise, I’m used to grimacing as my newly warmed muscles protest, still whining about yesterday's run. It won’t be fun, indeed. It feels like the warm-up mile keeps lasting for an eternity. The time is definitely good at instilling more fear in my soul. Exactly at this particular point I feel most out of shape and respectively the least competent.That’s a Saturday afternoon and I still don’t know why I’m here. Until half an hour ago, I was having a good time in a cozy armchair completely getting lost in a book. While dreaming of these comforts, I turn a corner and an icy blast of wind welcomes me. It cuts through my unlined pants as well as cotton t-shirt. The cold crawls through my skin and finally settles deep within my bones. That’s so sad I forgot my gloves and my hands are very stiff with the cold that it even hurts to bend them. Eventually, the mile is coming to its end and I should face my doom on the track.Now I’m getting closer to the most difficult part. I’m currently taking part in a race between the clock and me. Sure, I’m all geared up towards becoming a winner, but at the same time I really doubt that I’m good enough for this challenge, as time is an extremely tough counterpart. Unlike a race where I’ve got a traditional opponent, in this particular race there’s no such motivation. It’s up to me to find the drive in in me, and I really hope that it’s real. The clock starts and I begin running the 1200. I feel nothing but pain. I can’t keep my rhythm any longer. My arms fail to work properly. My arms as well as legs aren’t in sync; they're just battling against each other. I’m making a vigorous effort to settle into a pace. Only two of seem to be running. Each of us boasts a different time to achieve. Then, I watch my teammate sprinting away, letting me huff and puff by myself.
