Tragedy in Jewish History

The Jews are known to be the people who have gone through much persecution and have experienced many tragedies in their history. Intolerance towards the Jews from the side of many nations has been evident since the times of Israelite tribes to modern day Israel.

Jewish people have always strived to establish their own country, Israel. However, this led to four serious conflicts between Israel and the Arab countries. One of the most significant wars was the Six Day War. Such events as the Holocaust have also dramatically affected the Jews and the rest of the world, and its mysteries have not been unraveled yet.

The Holocaust was one of the greatest tragedies in Jewish history. Jews were murdered throughout Nazi Germany, the territories occupied by it and the territories held by allies of Nazi Germany.

Starting from the year 1933, the Jews were persecuted by the Nazi's, who considered the former a “lower” race. Their businesses were boycotted and destroyed. By 1939, Jews were no longer considered citizens. They could not attend public schools, engage in almost any activity or profession, own any land, associate with any non-Jew or visit public places, for example, parks and museums. The majority of Jews were brought under the rule of Nazi’s in the beginning of World War II. The Jews were deprived of human rights and forced to live in Ghetto's separated from the main territory of the cities. They led miserable lives and suffered there. This way Hitler’s plan of genocide was brought into action. It was calculated that the overall number of Jewish people who were killed was about 5,750,000. The population of Warsaw reduced to 60,000 people after 400,000 Jews had been taken to a concentrating camp.

Many Jews took part in uprisings, even though they were almost unarmed. They were only equipped with flame throwers. The most significant uprising took place in 1943 and was called the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. Even though many tragedies the Jewish people have been through are already in the past, there is still War going on in Israel. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is the conflict between the Jewish and the Arab population, began in the middle of the 20th century and is not resolved as of today. It is remarkable that Israel is capable of supporting a good level of life for its citizens in spite of the conflict. This country manages to stay rather successful with the war going on in it. This shows that Jewish people stay strong despite all the tragedies in their history.
