The Characters of Anthem, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged

Ayn Rand is the founder of the philosophy of rational individualism, opposed to collectivism. Her philosophical views Rand expressed through man-creator ideal living solely from his creativity and talent.

In politics, Ayn Rand was a supporter of unrestricted capitalism and minimal state, considered the only legitimate function of the state to protect the rights of person (including property rights).

On October 20, 1947 Rand gave evidence as a witness in the Commission on Un-American Activities in connection with the film "Song of Russia". In her testimony Rand regarded this film as communist propaganda. In general, she believed that the persecution in connection with the expression of communist views contrary to the law of freedom of speech, but she also expressed the thought that the state has the right to know who is a member of the party, advocating violence to achieve political goals. She talked about it.

Rand`s Objectivism has had a profound impact on the libertarian movement. David Nolan, one of the founders of the Libertarian Party, said that without Ayn Rand libertarian movement would not exist.

Rand herself never identify her as libertarian and responded very negatively about this phenomenon. She did not want to spend her time on it. She thought that it was a cheap attempt to get publicity. She said it in 1973 after a lecture in Boston, when she was asked about the position occupied in the Libertarian Party. She believed that libertarians "steal her ideas and mix them with the completely opposite ones such as religious fanaticism, anarchism and other intellectual absurdities, which can be found - and then call themselves libertarians and claim the presidency. This was the worst desecration of the ideas and philosophy as such.

All of these ideas were very clearly expressed in the literary works of Ayn Rand. All her written novels, especially "The Fountainhead", "Anthem" and "Atlas Shrugged" imbued with the idea of objectivism and rational egoism. All the characters in these novels embody the philosophy of the author. John Galt, the character of the novel "Atlas Shrugged", is a display of ideas of individualism. The protagonist of the novel "Anthem" and also Roarke from the "Source" embody the struggle against the system and rational egoism. In fact, all the main characters of the novels written by Ayn Rand embody the system or its opponents. The characters of Ayn Rand reflect her own point of view.
