An Essay about Active Euthanasia Debates

Nowadays, the issue of assisted suicide or active euthanasia raises many arguments and debates, both for and against it. The main dilemma faced by patients and doctors is whether it should be justified or allowed in the modern society. To make a decision, people need to analyze both pros and cons in addition to moral considerations in terms of how they value the life and others. Most of them believe that prolonged suffering is not so good for the value of patients’ life, but it’s needed to determine if the life can be saved without causing a lot of pain and distress.

All people seem to have different points of view about the justification of active euthanasia. They need to focus on rescue arguments, suffering, and other crucial aspects in addition to the response of killing patients. Basically, active euthanasia happens when certain actions take place to end the life of patients, and passive euthanasia is the withholding of their medical treatment necessary to ensure that they will continue to live. Most philosophers agree that the latter type allows patients to die in pain and agony, but if a lethal dose is administered, they also die, but without a lot of suffering, so its active form is a more humane approach.

When it comes to final results, there is no huge different between passive and active forms of euthanasia, but the process can be painful while the active one is more stressful. Most debates that surround this subject are originated from the opinion that such actions as letting die and killing are associated with certain moral questions and issues, but the terminology used is just an excuse for not allowing people to perform active euthanasia.

However, when patients choose the active euthanasia type, they are allowed to die with no pain and suffering, unlike the passive one, but there is no killing involved. Those people who claim that doctors enjoy watching their patients in pain that can’t be relieved are wrong and killing will not affect the end result of passive euthanasia in this case. With its active form, doctors actively take certain actions to cause the death of their patients, but the passive one does the same, but it’s more painful so that the argument about causing death are not convincing. Finally, this subject requires a lot of thinking at different angles, including legal, ethical, moral, and others, to make valuable conclusions.
