True Happiness Can Only Be Attained through Equality

Equality has always been a major problem of the society, and it still remains this way nowadays. There are many people who believe that true happiness can be attained only through equality, and they are right. For example, the modern society has many equality problems, including the ones based on religions, social classes, skin colors, nationalities, and so on.

When it comes to women, they haven’t always been respected and equal because they were considered inferior to men in the past. They had to live in the men-dominated society that portrayed them as some inferior race. The good news is that women managed to gain their equal rights and different opportunities that they lacked in the past, thanks to courageous, motivated, and strong-willed females who fought for their equality and didn’t want to give up.

If you focus on literature, you’ll find many examples describing this equality problem. As an example, Chaucer was one of those writers who supported women and their rights at that time by creating strong and interesting female characters in his famous books. He provided these women with such important characteristics as courage, strength, self-confidence, and others, and this is how the author exemplified different roles that they played in the society. This simple literary technique allowed Chaucer to contradict existing stereotypes in gender roles that dictated the subservient lives of many women.

When reading the Wife of Bath and its prologue, notice the words of the author that explain that true happiness can be attached only through equality so that power isn’t so important for people. Chaucer claims that people are too much dependent on power through the eyes of his female characters. In addition, he also believes that this ongoing power struggle was responsible for the awful distortion of women and their place in the society of his time.

This popular book contradicts existing religious and secular stigma related to women in the past. The main female character represents her liberal extremes in terms of stereotypes that existed in the middle ages because she always has her own mind about everything. It’s no wonder she was considered as a real sex symbol of the whole generation as she opposed the main concepts of chastity and stated her own ideas about equality. Her character is used by Chaucer to show readers how the society treats women unfairly.

Equality has always been a major problem of the society, and it still remains this way nowadays. There are many people who believe that true happiness can be attained only through equality, and they are right. For example, the modern society has many equality problems, including the ones based on religions, social classes, skin colors, nationalities, and so on.
