The Warning Signs of Diabetes

Diabetes is quite a serious medical condition that should be diagnosed and treated as early as possible to avoid health complications. Unfortunately, many diabetes symptoms are very subtle and harmless so that many patients don’t notice them until it becomes too late. There are certain warning signs of diabetes that should be remembered by people.

First, increased urination and excessive thirst are standard symptoms of this disease because excess sugar starts building up in the blood so that kidney must work more to filter and absorb it. This excess sugar is excreted into the urine, thus triggering a more frequent urination and leaving patients dehydrated. Unusual fatigue is another warning sign of diabetes, and it’s contributed by many factors, including dehydration and body’s inability to function correctly or use sugar levels for energy needs.

Weight loss is an important symptom of diabetes because people tend to lose calories while losing sugar via frequent urination. However, this condition may keep sugar from regular meals from reaching body cells, thus resulting in feeling constant hunger. People also need to watch for blurred vision as high sugar blood levels pull fluids from tissues, such as the lenses of their eyes, thus affecting their ability to focus too. These early vision changes don’t cause major problems, but if they are left untreated, they lead to complete blindness and vision loss.

Frequent infections and slow-healing sores also indicate diabetes because high sugar blood levels may affect the natural healing processes and ability to fight infections of the body. For female patients, vaginal and bladder infections are quite common. Moreover, patients often have tingling feet and hands because excess sugar in the blood may result in nerve damages. They may notice such warning symptoms as burning in hands and legs, tingling, and loss of sensation.

In addition, diabetes weakens the ability to fight germs, thus increasing the risk of gum and bone infections. That’s why patients suffer from swollen, red, and tender gums, loosen teeth, sores and pockets in their gums. If they notice ant of the above-mentioned signs, they should contact their doctors at once because the hints of the body must be taken seriously. The earlier diabetes is diagnosed, the sooner treatments start, thus allowing people to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.
