Stephen Crane The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky Essay

The Bride Comes to Yellow Shy is an interesting book written by Stephen Crane and it tells readers the story of Jack Potter and his spouse who ride in the train to Yellow Sky. In this plot, there are different conflicts that involve the main character and other people, including a town sheriff and a town drunk. Basically, the way the author depicts these characters and specific conflicts that happen throughout this story contribute to the main theme.

Stephen Crane provide readers with the idea that Jack Potter is a hard worker who is described as a known and liked man who remains shy and furtive at the same time. He is quite a dynamic character as his personality keeps changing, especially according to the fact that he gets married. However, the author doesn’t provide the audience with enough information about his bride because she is described as someone being young and pretty so that this character is static and doesn’t change the plot. This means that she is a minor character, while Scratchy and Potter are major characters.

The first conflict involved in this story involves Potter and himself because he’s worried about how this town will look at him based on the fact that he ran away to marry his bride even without its approval. Besides, Jack makes an important decision that he’ll use all possible methods and tools to make his journey back home as fast as he can. After that, he plans to provide local inhabitants with enough time to calm down before greeting his new wife.

The next conflict described in this book takes place in the town itself, and it involves 6 men who are spending their time in the weary gentlemen saloon. This story is Western-type with a simple plot, but it has a great meaning despite its inflexibility. The author uses his outlandish humor to take the town and its marshal through changes of time while proving that there is nothing that stays stagnant. After reading it, people will understand that it’s an ironic and comedic literary piece worth of their time and attention.

In conclusion, all the characters in this book closely resemble each other. Jack Potter is introduced as the knight of this town, but he is bullied and pushed around in the train. His love to his new wife is obvious, but it’s not enough to make his stop thinking about the reaction of the town. Scratchy Wilson is described as a dragon who often drinks and carries skillful weapons around.

The Bride Comes to Yellow Shy is an interesting book written by Stephen Crane and it tells readers the story of Jack Potter and his spouse who ride in the train to Yellow Sky.
