In the early years of the British Empire, England held colonial rule in South Asia, mostly in India. A strong interest in the construction of the empire turned to be a cultural project of control, setting the agenda for the academic study of modern Indian culture for many years. In the following article we’re going to take a look at clothing as an essential component of colonial culture.

Clothing fashions have changed greatly throughout time. From long skirts to short shorts, literary everything from clothing to accessories has absolutely changed. We’ve got an opportunity to look at what has already changed throughout time. Just by simply analyzing the clothing female wore, we’ll see that they were treated differently. It’s because they boasted rather a specific outfit, characterizing them as feminine and fancy. Those women wore big, long and heavy dresses. Some of the colonial folks had financial issues, so it would affect what they wore. So, in case of having a good job, they could have enough money to purchase better clothing. In the colonial period clothing served as a mirror image of the UK’s clothing.

Perhaps, you wonder whether the Indians influenced colonists’ clothing in any way or not. We know for sure that later inventions made female clothing evolve. We can take a look at the men and kids’ clothing to find out how this stuff has changed as much as female outfits. Another question worth to ask is why the clothes were heavy and what the materials colonists used. When researching colonial clothing we’ve stumbled on numerous details we’ll further explain.

Throughout history, a great number of things in society, music and art have influenced folks. One of the greatest things, which made us who we’re and tell other folks what we are all about clothes. Apparently, clothing can say more than enough, especially about a subject, still brought up in up-to-date society, such as feminism. In the colonial era, females were only allowed to wear certain clothes. Those women had no leeway and they were looked at differently in case of refusing to wear a dress. If females weren’t wearing a dress they would regarded as un-lady like, so society looked at them differently. At that time, females were known to work in factories or stay at home, and no one saw a necessity for them to wear pants.

There have always been stereotypes about females especially the one saying they shouldn’t work and instead, they ought to work around the house and also take care of their children and cooking.
