An Overview of Much Ado about Nothing

Before you start reading Much Ado about Nothing, you should know that it’s a famous tragicomedy written by William Shakespeare. This famous author knew how to avoid writing tragedies by adding a number of interesting comedic scenes. In this book, you can notice a tragedy because it’s portrayed via jealousy, accusations, betrayals, revenge, death, and other similar negative elements. When it comes to comedic parts, they include irony, slapstick, and wit. They all allowed the author to turn a standard tragedy into a unique tragicomedy.

Basically, this play is all about accusations when the character called Claudio embarrasses and shots Hero, her wife, but the worst part is that it happens on a wedding day. Don’t forget that Don Jon literally hates his sibling called Don Pedro so that he does his best to outcast him of all good friends to force him to remain alone. For example, Don Jon attempts to achieve this major goal by setting up a situation where one unknown woman impersonates Hero so that Claudio who sees her and starts thinking that she has an affair with someone else.

Another important theme depicted by William Shakespeare in this play is jealousy. You can notice it in a scene when Claudio in informed that his wife is unfaithful. It’s obvious that he becomes enraged and is forced to tell others about that, but he chooses his wedding as a proper place to take this step, which may seem a bit weird. This is how Claudio definitely embarrasses Hero because people start looking at her in shame for being unfaithful to her husband.

Besides, this theme is also portrayed when Claudio understands that Don Pedro wants to get Hero for himself. When he embarrasses her at their own wedding, her cousin called Beatrice wants to revenge him for making up this nonsense. Another important thing that should be mentioned is that Benedict loves her so that she decides to ask him to challenge Claudio into their dual.

In addition, William Shakespeare discussed betrayals when Don Jon does everything possible to ruin the reputation of his own brother by telling many lies to everyone. Readers should realize that Don Pedro always trusted his sibling, but it turned out that he hates him. The subject of shame is clearly shown in a scene when all people call at Hero as someone who is unfaithful to her husband and an irresponsible woman. The author also managed to represent the authority and power of relationships between women and men.
