Myers-Briggs Test Evaluation

Myers-Briggs Test Evaluation is an introspective self-report questionnaire created to find out psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions. Despite the fact that the test is often criticized, it remains an important key to understanding the characteristics of a person. In general, it determines how people see the world and make decisions. Many Western companies require future employers to pass Myers-Briggs test.

The appearance of typology dates back to the works of Carl Jung, who in his book Psychological Types suggested that there are four basic psychological functions that help a person to perceive the world – thinking, feeling, intuition, and sensation. This work was much more fundamental than the one by Katherine Briggs, which was simply interested in the differences in the characters of different people. But, after getting acquainted with the typology of Jung she began a detailed study of this perspective and even published a couple of articles. She also allocated four types. But later the theory was significantly expanded by her daughter, who gave it a modern look.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator appeared during the Second World War. It was not just a theory – researchers relied on the original tests they created. The aim of research was to determine individual personal preferences at work and choose women who at the production should have replaced men departed to the army. Later, in the 1950s-1960s, the typology was positively accepted by prominent scientists.

The essence of a psychological Myers-Briggs test is that by measuring unique combinations of personal human factors, it is possible to predict person’s penchant for a certain type of activity, the style of actions, the nature of solutions, and other features that will allow a person to feel comfortable and confident. Four scales, which explore the personality, were invented to do this:

  • E-I – orientation of consciousness (introversion - extraversion).
  • S-N – orientation in the situation (sensing - intuition).
  • T-F – basis for decision-making (thinking - feeling).
  • J-P – the way of making solutions (judging - perception).

The combination of scales makes the designation of one of the 16 types, such as: INTP, ISFJ, etc.

The basic method is the survey using Myers-Briggs questionnaire with its subsequent verification. The type according the MBTI, in accordance with the official definition, is the result of the questionnaire, but the accuracy of the concept is guaranteed only by a further consultation with a certified specialist.
