American Brass Bands

The history of American brass bands goes so far back, that one can barely state for sure when it took its start. For as long as brass instruments have been around, people are trying to master them and they find inspirations from some of the key historical figures who left their footprints on American brass path.

To start with, the mentioned above branch of orchestral music has a lot to thank for to composers and kapellmeister who managed to pull brass orchestras through such a big amount of time. Famous composer John Philip Sousa (1854-1932) with his "The Stars and Stripes Forever" — the national march of the United States of America one of the most famous country’s brass marches, along with Edwin Franko Goldman (1878-1956) majorly influences American brass band culture of their time by contributing to brass repertoire and writing some manual literature about orchestras.

Nevertheless, when someone mentions brass instruments, the first person that usually comes to people’s minds is Louis Armstrong. He made a huge contribution to the dissemination of the musical direction of jazz. Because of his talent of being an amazing trumpeter and singer, personal charm, and love of music, today we have the opportunity to listen to enjoy some of the best of his unique compositions.

Louis Daniel was born in a very poor African-American neighborhood in New Orleans, Louisiana. His biography says very little about his parents, as he was mostly raised by his grandmother. Louis’ grandmother and him lived very poorly, so the child started working at the very early age in order to support his family. Little Armstrong who was not yet aware of his great bright future, was selling newspapers during the daytime, and then singing songs at the streets with his friends later. When he got older, Louis started working with coal in the port.

Musical biography of Louis Armstrong begins in 1913, when he received his first education at the boarding camp for convicted teens. He got there because he brought a gun to a New Year's Eve. At the boarding camp, he played cornet in the orchestra.

In 1923, Armstrong met his wife, a pianist named Lily Harden. In 1925, they organized their own Hot Five band, and later the orchestra. During the 1920s, he was touring around Europe and North Africa, which brought him fame, but also a divorce. Then he got married again, and again, and Lucille Wilson, his last wife, was his partner till the day Armstrong died.

Not really across legal concepts, needed rewriting but a start for me to go from. Did not read the instructions and if read would have been fine.
