The Origin of Ebola and Its Primary Symptoms

Ebola is a fatal and rare infection caused by a specific virus, and this disease first appeared in 1976 in such countries as Sudan, Congo, and a few others. There were some sporadic outbreaks in Africa in the past, and the worst thing is that this condition results in many deaths. In terms of its origins and causes, Ebola is considered to be transmitted to people from bats. It was first introduced to human beings via the blood, secretions, organs, and different bodily fluids of infected animals. Other than bats, they include gorillas, chimpanzees, monkeys, and so on.

Many experts believe that the fast spread of this dangerous virus is caused by the common travelling patterns of bats. The first confirmed Ebola case in the US was in 2014, and this patient died in the end. To survive, this virus has to find suitable host cells to take them over. Besides, it replicates itself, and this means that this virus can be easily spread to other cells. In response to this virus, the body starts producing certain antibodies that serve as the protein workhorses of people’s immune systems. When it comes to less serious infections, they help the body stop the spreading of viruses and clearing them out. The main problem with Ebola is that this virus can spread very fast, so it can overcome the immune response on the body with ease.

There are specific initial symptoms that characterize this serious disease. Patients and doctors should remember that they tend to appear 2-21 days after their exposure to this virus. In most cases, these symptoms appear within 8-10 days after being infected according to the latest statistics. Most of them are quite nonspecific at the very beginning, so Ebola looks like many other medical conditions and viruses, so it’s hard to diagnose. For example, most patients experience the following initial symptoms of Ebola, including their fever, unusual weakness, muscle pain, severe headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and others.

Some patients may start bleeding from their mouth and nose, and it’s called the hemorrhagic syndrome that often happens only in the late stage of this condition. Commonly, almost a half of all patients who have Ebola develop this symptom. Finally, the advanced stages of this disease are characterized by such symptoms as blood in stools, impaired liver and kidney functions, rash, and others.
