Mao's Cultural Revolution

Mao’s Cultural Revolution left its major imprint on China, and it’s also influenced and shapes all the basic political things that happened in this country. This historical figure had a huge effect on this region and left quite a lasting legacy that resonated in the entire China and changes many things. This statement is easy to prove after taking a look at the Cultural Revolution and its impact on this country.

Basically, it was a social-political event that started in 1966 and finished 10 years later. This revolution was started by Mao Zedong, a leader of China and its communist party. Its main goal was the reinforcement of communist in this region by getting rid of all traditional, capitalist, and cultural elements in terms of the society. Another important goal of this revolution was enforcing Maoist orthodoxy.

Everything started when Mao alleged that all kinds of wealthy components in China were infiltrating the society with the purpose of restoring capitalism. He also insisted that all of these elements must be fully removed from the country via a violent class struggle. In their response to this call, Chinese young people formed their Red Guard groups and started this political campaign.

Mao supported these groups that ordered the army and communist party to avoid interfering. This movement started to spread into different aspects of the military, politics, and culture of China. This is what led to widespread factional struggles in different parts of an everyday Chinese life. Besides, this movement also resulted in the decimation of almost all leaders of the communist party so that only 17 members survived in the end, including Mao, while others were either killed or imprisoned. Another major impact is that many people were arrested in such violent struggles and they fell victims to many abuses, including their public humiliation, harassment, tortures, and so on.

The worst part is that many historical relics and artefacts were damaged or fully destroyed, while religious and cultural sites were ruined and ransacked after Mao’s revolution. When he died and his gang was arrested in 1976, reformers ruled by Deng Xiaoping was in power and most of Mao’s reforms associated with the cultural revolution were abandoned and any of its evidence was forbidden to be mentioned in public. As a result, Mao’s revolution was considered a negative phenomenon that caused a lot of harm to China and its proper development.

Mao’s Cultural Revolution left its major imprint on China, and it’s also influenced and shapes all the basic political things that happened in this country. This historical figure had a huge effect on this region and left quite a lasting legacy that resonated in the entire China and changes many things.
