Euthanasia A Case Study

Euthanasia appears to be a widely disputed practice. That’s one, supposed to be accepted in today’s society. The vast majority of folks are afraid of death, others don’t care. Everybody knows for sure it will happen sooner or later, though anyway nobody is eager to be there when it occurs. The questions of how, when and where, and most crucially, for how long, hold our minds tight. Everybody is willing to die painlessly, although in order to insure a good death one should plan it. Folks with an incurable disease or injury should have the right to end their life.

If we look up a definition in Webster’s dictionary, we’ll see that euthanasia appears to be a method or act of causing death painlessly, just to end worthless suffering. That’s advocated by some as an inevitable way to death with victims of incurable health disorders. The given definition can be interpreted several different ways, thus providing ample room for debate.

Some folks are assured that euthanasia can be defined as assisted suicide when there’s a distinct difference between the two. In order to distinguish the whole difference between euthanasia and assisted suicide you require looking at the last act, that’s the act without which death wouldn’t take place. When talking about assisted suicide, we should realize that it’s taken place if the dying person performs the last act. If the patient himself pushes a switch to trigger the very fatal injection after a doctor has already inserted an intravenous needle into the patient’s vein or if the patient simply swallows an overdose of drugs, which were provided by a doctor to cause death, these are typical examples of assisted suicide. In order to determine if the cause of death was supposed to be euthanasia one could see if a third party actually performed the last act, which intentionally caused a patient’s death. The third party might give the patient a lethal injection for the purpose of ending the patient’s tough life.

Active euthanasia turns to be one of two forms of euthanasia. It suggests taking positive steps aimed at ending the life of the terminally ill. Another form is passive euthanasia. It’s employed when a patient is being kept alive with the help of mechanical means. When there’s no hope that the patient will ever be able to live without a special machine and when his or her future is sure to be burdened by further pain as well as coma, when the life-support systems get removed, only in this case, the individual is officially permitted a natural death.
