All people have their rights to live, safety, and liberty, and they can’t be violated by anyone. They also have their rights to live safely and peacefully, and they all are guaranteed by the government. In 1945, all war participants signed the charter that defined human rights and guarantees of their effective protection. Basically, human rights are defined as being form equal and free in dignity, and they also state that all people are entitled to all of their freedoms and rights without any discrimination based on their national origins, skin colors, and so on.
Human rights are quite important for the modern society, and every human being must have them all. It’s the main responsibility of governments to protect such rights of all citizens. However, if to remember Indonesia, the human rights of Chinese-Indonesians were violated in 1998 because they were refused to have them. That’s because Chinese people became scapegoats for the government and were easy-targeted for any of its mistakes.
For such people, riots in 1998 were almost like Berlin for Jews before WWII, and the worst fact is that the local government didn’t do anything to stop the violations of their human rights. During such riots, the rights of Chinese-Indonesians were violated on a regular basis. Besides, they have been violated regularly throughout the history of this country, and many facts prove that it was completely wrong. The government of this country should work hard to protect the human rights of this nation, and other countries needed to pressure it to change its attitude to this conflict.
At that time, the economic situation in Indonesia was very bad, and many inhabitants believed that Chinese people were responsible for that. Many of them lost their jobs and prices kept rising all the time. That’s why people started to attack supermarkets in their attempts to protest against increased prices on food. It was almost impossible for the government to improve this economic situation, and things got only worse because of the drought. As a result, the arm forces of this country were thinly stretched. The first attempt to improve this situation was raising basic domestic interest rates while tightening its fiscal policy. Local companies believed that they couldn’t pay off their foreign debts. Chinese-Indonesians made up only 4% of the whole population possessed almost 75% of its economy.
