All people are familiar with the statement that money talks. Do you know what it means? Everything depends on how much money people have and where they want to spend it. Basically, money has its own language that can be easily translated through inequality and power. Those people who have enough wealth, money provides them with the necessary shelter and comfort, unlike less fortunate individuals.
There are certain conditions established to keep the existing hierarchy stable, including people’s education. This is how the formal breeding ground of the modern society is established so that some values are emphasized among different groups. They result in their future career paths, social status, and possibilities to achieve success. This incredible economic institution is called education and it serves 2 basic purposes: turning people into capital investments and perpetuating their social classes.
In this essay, I decided to contrast such educational facilities as the University of Massachusetts and Smith College while discussing different ways in which social and cultural classes are exemplified in higher education. First, there are many dimensions of classes so that readers need to understand what to look for. I made a short list of basic things expected to be present in Smith College according to my personal ideals. For example, they include comfort, prestige, power, space, attention, money, competition, luxury, honor, and many others.
All of the above-mentioned things were combined together to create a situation where people are placed at their advantage over others in both social and economic ways. The most insistent and evident these factors in educational facilities, such as this college and university, the most prepared students are for their future success. I found many examples in Smith College and the University of Massachusetts that proved my statement.
Both of these educational facilities are located in different places, but they have similarities and differences. Smith College us surrounded by colorful settings, and it locations offers many things to students, including food and shopping. Its campus is beautiful and it provides a perfect overall feeling. The university offers the same feelings, but it seems to be more luxurious and expensive for students because of its tuition fees.
