Andrew Jackson's Presidency

Andrew Jackson is one of the US presidents who had a nickname Old Hickory as a wartime hero. He was born in South Carolina in 1767 in the family of poor Irish immigrants. His childhood was poor so that he couldn’t get any schooling, but he managed to learn to read when he was quite young, which was quite uncommon for rural America at that time. After the revolution, Jackson started studying law, and then he decided to move to become an attorney.

The first time he got national attention is when he won a conflict with Creek Indians while leading a small army. After that, Andrew was promoted to the highest ranking in the army and got enough authority. Besides, he won national recognition and fame after winning British soldiers at New Orleans port, and this is when talks about Jackson becoming the next US president started to spread.

In 1824, Jackson decided to take part in elections to take over the US presidency after Monroe. There were 5 other members of his party that ran for the office, but Andrew managed to win. How did this country changed because of his presidency? This question is often asked by students interested in history. Throughout years, all presidents changed the US in one way or another. For example, some of them changed this country for the better, while others changed America for the worse, but everything depends on personal perspectives.

During the presidency term of Andrew Jackson, he succeeded to change the US in a number of ways. The killing of the US Bank, removing Indians, using the so-called Spoils system, and other important decisions were responsible for such important changes. One of the biggest changes that happened in this country is the Indian Removal Act introduced in 1830. Jackson understood that citizens couldn’t prosper if they were constantly oppressed with the ongoing conflicts with native Indians.

That’s why he tried to convince Indians that they would prosper after moving to different places with mild climate conditions, fertile land, and other things that would allow supporting their tribes. In addition, Jackson also offered them such basic things as clothes and aluminum so that Indians were forced to relocate to the land that wasn’t explored much and was unsettled. This decision changes the standard ways of living for Indians while stretching the boundaries of this country westward, so it had a huge impact on modern America.
