Defining Ku Klux Klan's Agenda of Racial Hatred

The original Ku Klux Klan was founded in sometime between 1965 and 1866 in Pulaski, Tennessee. The first anniversary was celebrated with a gala parade on June 5, 1867. There were six founders, including John Lester, John Kennedy, James Crowe, Richard Reed, Calvin Jones, and Frank McCord.

The Ku Klux Klan was composed of only white, Anglo-Saxon, Christians and American citizens. Both male and female took part in it. Those people believed that their religion and race were superior to people with another religions and color of skin. Those people felt that they had to unite to create “white power” in order to defend the white race against attacks of other races in America. They also claimed that whites had to maintain the full control of the United States and prevent people of other religions and races from gaining power. The main target of the Ku Klux Klan was African-Americans. It was the time just after the Civil War when Abraham Lincoln freed slaves. The Ku Klux Klan was mainly formed by ex-Confederate soldiers. At this time, the usual way of living of southerners was completely turned upside down. Possibly, they decided to take out their frustration on the freed blacks.

Assaults like lynching were commonly committed by Klansmen, and the government could not do anything about that. Some sources, for instance, the film “Birth of a Nation” represent the Ku Klux Klan as a group of brave heroes who saved whites people from aggressive blacks at that time. Over some time, it also became known that the KKK had heavily discriminated Jewish people. One of such violence acts was the bombing of synagogues. The Ku Klux Klan decided to increase its area of control and started to help protect Mexican border. It is known that when the Klan was on patrol on the border, illegal aliens from Mexica were too afraid to cross it. The KKK tried to justify its actions by using words from the Holy Bible.

From 1867 to 1870, the members of the Klan committed more than 2,000 murders and many rapes, floggings, castrations, brandings, and shootings. The group started to fade out in the early 1870’s.

In the twentieth century, the Klan was founded in November 1915 by Imperial Wizard William J. Simmons. Simmons decided to revive the Klan after a period of inactivity. In 1939, the time of the Great Depression, many members decided to leave this group because of its negative reputation of corruption and violence. Since that time, there were several attempts to revive the group, but it never reached the large sizes.
