How to Recognize a Liar

Every day we are confronted with the lies from 10 to 200 times, and the signs, by which a lie can be identified, are subtle and difficult to understand.

Symbolically, liars can be divided into two groups. The first group are people unfamiliar or little familiar to you who want to take your money or property. The second group includes people close to you, who want to hide information or distort it.

The first group of liars includes a variety of crooks and scam artists, ranging from poor beggars and ending with general directors of powerful financial pyramids. Their task is to find out your weak spots and use them to force you to give them money. To do this, they build a legend, which helps them take the money from you. Gypsy promise to remove damage to you or your children, financial pyramids agents promise you riches of the world, and members of religious sects promise eternal bliss in the other world.

The first step against the liars of this category consists in recognizing the enemy’s intentions. The reason for the suspicion may be excessive intrusiveness of a person, desire to find out any information that can later be turned against you. It is therefore not recommended to be frank with strangers. The more you tell about yourself, the more you give to the crook.

Liars of second group don’t deprive you of money, but the mental anguish that they cause can be pretty painful. We are talking about marital deception and falsehood by friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Motives for such deception may be different and sometimes even noble.

So how can you recognize a liar? The first way is the logical analysis of information. There are two types of such an analysis: the vertical one, when information received is compared at different times, and the horizontal one, when information is gathered from various sources. The first method is used, for example, by the police, when a suspect is forced to describe the actions at a certain time for several times. If the suspect is lying, then sooner or later they can make a mistake somewhere, and then the investigator will see contradictions.

The liar usually sticks to the main narrative line, but cannot work out all the details. Attention to detail combined with infinite patience is an important weapon in the hands of a man who seeks the truth. Ask a person about all the details of the event or a situation. The question is very important in seeing the reaction of the suspect. A person, who does not know the true information, as a rule, pauses, gathering thoughts, and finding the most appropriate response. This pause in itself is already a signal of a lie.
