When it comes to Forsaken Fields, the most interesting fact about them is that they gave many historical facts about Japanese-Americans during, before, and right after WWII. Basically, these people had their Alien Land Law that was put in its force right before this terrible war. Its basic target was prohibiting those Japanese who have just arrived from their home country from becoming US citizens, and this is what preventing them from owning any land in this state.
The good news is that Japanese-Americans were quite clever so that they managed to find certain loopholes in this law. For example, if you’re born in the US, you’re considered a US citizen. That’s why Japanese wanted to buy land in the name of their kids who were the legal citizens of this country. However, it’s worth mentioning that this law was only a beginning of their problems in America.
No need to say that many Japanese people came to this country to pursue their American dream, but this place turned out to be angry and hostile to them. They wanted to work hard to earn a living and support their families. It’s true that those people who are born in the US usually take their freedom and rights for granted, and most of them tend to be lazy. They can’t see any American Dream and freedom visualized by many foreigners.
Sadly, many Japanese-Americans travel so far looking for a good place to work and live, but they were treated in a very bad way. Before WWII, they had quite hard times when searching for anyone who could sell them any land or the equipment necessary to run it. Most local inhabitants were worried that they would start earning more money than they or have better crops. However, Japanese-Americans made good money to support the needs of their families.
In 1910, they owned a range of crops, including strawberries, potatoes, rice, and so on. They also had a lot of respect for their land while doing their best to find innovative ways and methods to use crops to get the most out of their available space. Their children knew everything about farming so that they had the right knowledge of different plant types and their specifics. It’s no wonder most of their kids wanted to become excellent farmers after growing up.
Finally, Japanese people were considered dangerous when WWII started due to bombing Pearl Harbor, and many of them who lived in California were put in special camps. They had to leave their land and property and go to these horrible camps.
