Romeo and Juliet’s Tragic Death

The plot of the tragedy Romeo and Juliet drama by William Shakespeare is based on an ancient legend of the 14th century, the events of which took place in Verona during the time of the Duke della Scala.

The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a true hymn to love. Strong sense erupts between the characters at once, from the first sight. This occurs at a costume ball at the Capulet house where Romeo has come together with his friends. Nothing bodes this love: family feud, Romeo’s crash on proud beautiful Rosalyn, matchmaking Paris, Juliet’s parents will, and age of heroes. But love is growing rapidly in young hearts, making them accept bold and firm decisions, poetic words, changing the characters. Juliet turns from a naive girl into a woman capable of fighting for her feeling. Romeo changes too. His love for Rosaline was not real love. For Romeo his admiration for Rosaline is only a harbinger, a premonition of real love.

Characteristically, the passion of young people, which was so poetically and clearly expressed in the first scene on the balcony, draws them to marriage, to open and honest union for life. Juliet was the one who thought of marriage; she sent her nurse to Romeo to arrange a marriage. Romeo was still too startled with his happiness. He still prone to passionate outpourings; he had not realized that he would have to fight for his happiness.

Lorenzo in the tragedy is not so much the type of priest, as the type of the humanist. In the love of Romeo and Juliet Lorenzo sees pledge of salvation that would cease infighting. That is why he willingly joins the hands of Romeo and Juliet at the altar. When circumstances take a serious turn, when Romeo is banished for killing Tybalt and Juliet is forced to marry the unloved Paris, Lorenzo grabs the last resort, based on his excellent knowledge of plants. Juliet must drink a juice, plunging into a deep sleep, and Romeo was to come for the ‘dead’ friend and secretly take her with him.

Then fateful combination of circumstances and a number of unfortunate accidents, as it happens in real life, destroy the plan of Lorenzo and condemn the lovers to death. The epidemic suddenly broke out in the neighboring towns; quarantines, erected on the roads, do not allow the young monk, the messenger Lorenzo to reach Romeo. Romeo gets the false news of Juliet’s death. The tragic ending makes a striking impression. Both characters die, confessing love for each other.
