Executive Summary of the Hispanic Market

Latin America is a major economic region (its weight in global GDP is about 9%) and one of the most advanced among the less developed regions of the world (the income per capita is second only to Central and Eastern Europe). About the third of the region’s GDP is accounted to Brazil, it is then followed by Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela.

Leading countries in the region have economic models that differ from each other, but they are based usually on neo-liberal model of modernization, although a number of Latin American countries use other models, for example Venezuela.

Hispanic market is characterized by a gradual decrease in the share of agriculture in national income and an increase in the share of the industry. As a result of industrialization in the region, new branches were created, including ferrous metallurgy, machine building, and chemical industry. The industrial look of the region is determined by Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, which account 2/3 of industrial production in the region, as well as Chile, Colombia, and Peru.

In Latin America, with a raw material base, there are several export-oriented manufacturing sectors. The mining industry has the mining and metallurgical as well as oil industry, the agricultural sector has the production of sugar, coffee, canned food, juices, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, grains, and meat. The manufacturing industry became the most dynamic sector of the economy of Latin American countries. Along with the plants of primary processing raw materials, modern enterprises of new industries were formed here as well. This is characteristic of Brazil and Argentina, which have become major producers of cars, ships, and light industry products. Being on the periphery of the world economy, the manufacturing industry in Latin America is highly dependent on demand and prices for its main export commodities. This includes the production of non-ferrous metals and primary processing of agricultural products.

Non-ferrous metallurgy is one of the leading sectors on Hispanic market. Machine-building industry is developing not only in Argentina and Brazil, but also in Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Costa Rica. Shipbuilding and aircraft is developed in Brazil. Agricultural machinery exists on all Hispanic markets, but it is the most developed in Brazil and Argentina.

The chemical industry structure is dominated by industries oriented on domestic consumption, but there are also productions oriented on external market. The basis of the wood industry in Hispanic market is represented by lumbering (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia). Textile industry is represented mainly by cotton companies.
