Satanism in America

Satanism is a number of occult and religious beliefs, worldviews and ideas that took shape in the 19th century as a protest against the dominant position of Christianity, in which the image of Satan is interpreted as a symbol of power and freedom.

Satanic cults reject Christian culture through the worship of Satan and exalt evil and violence, preaching communion with the mystical source of evil – demons, Satan, etc. Their very existence is due to the fact that Satan seems to its adherents more powerful than God and good forces, and has more opportunities to provide them with the desired.

In 1980’s at the time of the Reagan administration, there was a phenomenon of mass hysteria about crime done by Satanists. The most famous crimes related to Satanism in America have been committed by a sect Family of Charles Manson, whose members brutally killed a number of people, including a well-known film actress Sharon Tate, who was then in the last month of pregnancy. Manson maintained a relationship with the London Youth satanic group Power. While serving his term in prison Manson had a cell mate who was a Scientologist, who spent many hours of sessions with him, later used by Manson in his sect.

On November 27, 2001 it became known that the organization of the Satanists, Hacking for Satan, had hacked sites of 25 churches and church organizations in the world, including six sites in the US.

He was arrested in late February after a serious burns received as a result of the burning of the churches.

At the same time such an openly professing satanic organization as a Church of Satan has an official status, and is in the register of recognized religions by the armed forces of the USA (in connection with a request for satanic funeral of a naval officer, a member of the organization). The organization organizes satanic baptism, weddings and funerals.

In 2012, the theologian George Chryssides noted that in 1998 there were about 20,000 Satanists in the United States, although according to other estimates, constant number of those practicing Satanism, do not exceed the mark of 3,000 people.
