Let’s illustrate Sex - Actions And Reactions

The term sexual revolution was already employed at the beginning of the 20th century, though usually the notion of sexual revolution implies the radical changes in society and public consciousness, that took place in the 1960s. For many centuries, the life of an average person as well as society was strictly regulated by corresponding imperatives and also religious prohibition. For instance, up to the early 20th century sex appeared to be a common taboo.

However, public consciousness started changing gradually at the beginning of the century. The suffrage movement burst out, which gradually transformed into the feminist movement. The First World War generated the drop of public morality for a relatively long period of time that in many countries came to an end with the collapse of democracy and establishment of a dictatorship.

Later, after the Second World War had come to its end, there appeared an absolutely different rising generation with weird beliefs and views, who literally blew the minds of their conservative parents. It appeared to be the first generation of prosperity, which knew nothing about the war or the mass unemployment, and respectively didn’t share the values of the previous generation. Their parents having seen an absolutely different life attached supreme importance to material values. On the contrary, the youth opposed the values of consumer society and they noticed its threat, that their parents had failed to spot.

Have you ever though what caused this revolution? There’re folks, assured that it was the advent of contraceptive pills that gave rise to the sexual revolution. Frankly speaking, it’s not so. A great number of factors contributed to the beginning of the revolution.

In the 1960s, the civil rights movement burst out. It was followed by the university reform movement that gradually transformed into the pacifist movement against the war in Vietnam. By means of the help of television the youth got an excellent opportunity to see American soldiers as well as Vietnamese kids dying and they couldn’t understand why it was taking place and what for it was required to become cannon fodder and go to kill and pass away for the unknown or alien to them political purposes. Officials didn’t appear to be the role models for the youth, they preferred revolutionaries such as Che Guevara. Great disturbances burst out at the University Berkley in 1964. The youth was overwhelmed with the real idea, the powerful idea of pacifism for the first time. That was the first real genuine mass upsurge.
