Cross-National Crime Comparisons between Canada and U.S.

First, getting to cross-national crime comparisons between Canada and U.S. let’s see what global features of crime there are in Canada and the United States.

The biggest and the most significant difference is the nature of the crimes. Due to the fact that it is allowed in the United States, unlike Canada, not only to own, but also to carry a weapon, there is enormous number of crimes committed with firearms in the United States, that is to say: robberies, murders. All the crimes take place with the use of firearms both automatic and other guns.

On the contrary, the crime situation in Canada is much better. According to the statistics, the number of crimes committed with firearms in Canada is much less than in the US. However, in Canada there are more crimes involving theft. The number of disadvantaged areas in regions of the US is much higher than in Canada.

As for the drugs, Canada is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of marijuana in the United States, and, consequently, a large amount of marijuana is consumed at the domestic market as well. In fact, marijuana is probably the only real common drug in Canada. As for the U.S., the most common drug is cocaine, which is followed by marijuana.

The murder rate also differs between the two countries. Accordingly, in Canada there are about 2 murders among 100,000 people; in the U.S. there are 5 murders among 100,000 people. Crimes that occur with firearms in Canada lead to the death of 140-150 people, while in the U.S. the comparable figure is about 9.5 thousand people. In Canada, there 191 policemen per 100,000 people; in the U.S. there are 243 policemen per 100,000.

As for the rate of rapes, the number of rapes per 100,000 people in Canada is 1.7, which is almost 2 rapes; in the U.S. there are approximately 27.5 rapes per 100,000 people.

The average homicide rate is 1.8 per 100,000 people in Canada and 5.5 in the United States. Aggressive attack using weapons are 143 in Canada and 324 in the United States. Armed robberies are 88 in Canada and 145 in the United States.

Burglary occurs in Canada much more frequently than in the United States: 954 against 728, respectively. As for the car theft, there are 521 car thefts in Canada and 414 in the U.S. The rate of the banal theft in the United States is 2,475 per 100,000 people and 2,224 in Canada.

From all the above, we can conclude that Canada is a country of kleptomania, the country of criminal elements, who prefer to get another’s property by theft, burglary, avoiding the use of firearms and applying psychological pressure on the hosts, or using lack thereof, obtained possession of their property.

Was competitively priced, worked with my very short deadline- I am sure she would have done an even better job if I would have given her more than a few hours to complete the assignment.
